Students to develop intellectual potentials through scholarships - Ofosuware

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has awarded 38 brilliant but needy students scholarship grants to pursue various programmes at the senior high school level. Two types of scholarships were awarded; 30 of the students had a grant that would cover three years of study while the remaining of eight would enjoy a two-year grant cover. Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) who made the presentation, pledged the assembly�s preparedness to support disadvantaged students within the Metropolis adding that such children could reap the full benefits of Education. He reminded the recipients that the scholarship was purely performance-based, and that TMA would not hesitate to withdraw it anyone whose academic performance fell below expectation. �My advice to you is to shun bad company, and stick to your books so that the investment the Assembly is making does not go waste�. He asked them to learn hard to bring glory and honour not only to themselves, but to their families and the nation as well. In a speech read for her, Mrs Victoria Opoku, Tema Metro Director of Education, appealed to other stakeholders in education such as industries, companies and NGOs within the Metropolis, to complement the efforts of TMA, in assisting needy children to further their studies at the tertiary level. Annual Scholarships Award Scheme, instituted in 1997 is to give brilliant but needy students within the Metropolis, the opportunity to develop their intellectual potentials to the fullest.
