ECG To Settle Over Billed Customers

The Electricity Company of Ghana says it will refund some monies to customers who have been unduly billed following the recent hike in tariffs.

According to ECG, it has realized some challenges associated with the implementation of the recent 59.2 percent hike in electricity tariff and for this reason, it has decided to refund some monies to its customers who have indirectly been cheated as a result of imbalances in the calculation of the recent hike in utility tariff.

In a statement issued in Accra, the ECG asked customers to note that the tariff difference between 1st December and 13th December, 2015 would be reconciled and the difference refunded in January 2016.

It said it detected the challenges associated with the implementation of the tariff adjustment recently.

“The company’s billing cycle including prepayment vending is a monthly cycle system. Therefore, any cash deposit for electricity will bill from 1st December, 2015 at the adjusted new rate of 59.2% instead of from 14th Dec 2015 as announced by PURC.

“Customers should please note that the tariff difference between 1st December and 13thDecember, 2015 will be reconciled and the difference refunded in January 2016.

“This means that your vending in December 2015 will be higher than the 59.2% adjustment implemented. However, at your vending in January 2016 the necessary credit refund will automatically apply.”

It therefore advised customers to contact the nearest ECG office for any complaints.
