Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, has said the School Feeding Programme has endeared itself to many pupils in the municipality.

This has resulted in many pupils attending school and thereby creating congestion in some schools, he said.

He said the Assembly was making frantic efforts to get the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) to increase the number of beneficiary schools in the municipality to take care of the situation.

Mr Quaye said this when he addressed the 2016 first ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Amasaman.

He said the School Feeding Programme is undergoing a restructuring and policy direction to make it more relevant and to conform to international best practices and as result, the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection has taken over as the sector Ministry from the MLGRD.

On agriculture in the municipality, Mr Quaye said the Assembly is facing major challenges on the sector due to activities of sand winning and estate development.

“We are losing most of our farmlands to estate development to the detriment of agriculture and I have made a passionate appeal to the Nii Mei and Naa Mei (Chiefs), the custodians of the lands of the municipality, to give attention to this issue to help find a lasting solution to it,” he said.

On the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Quaye said it is the critical intervention scheme in the country and therefore urged the assembly members to educate their electorate to register with it for their own good.
