Policeman Shot On Bus by Robbers

A policeman was shot and passengers attacked on a commercial bus by armed robbers on the Bole-Bamboi main road in the Northern Region, on Sunday. The Northern Regional Police Public Relations, Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times, said the policeman was receiving treatment at the Wenchi Government Hospital. He said the policeman, who was detailed to join a patrol team at Kuyin, forgot an item at home and was on his way back for the item when the armed robbers attacked the bus. He explained that the masked armed robbers blocked the road around maluwe, a farming community nearby, stopped the bus and attempted to rob the passengers, but when they saw the policeman in the uniform, they shot him and dragged him out of the bus. According to ASP Tetteh, the armed robbers subjected the policeman to severe beatings and fled into the bush when they saw a police patrol team approaching the scene. But for the timely arrival of the police patrol team, the armed robbers would have killed him ASP Tetteh said. He said no arrest had been made. He made a passionate appeal to the residents to assist with information that would help apprehend the culprits.
