Microfinance Scandal: Jastar Kidnaper Sentenced To Five Years

A Circuit Court in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region has sentenced the man who kidnapped the three-year-old daughter of a radio presenter at Jerrison FM to five years in prison.

The convict, Eric Otu kidnapped the three-year-old daughter of Deddy Brown, a sports presenter with Jerryson FM owned by the Jastar CEO Charles Asum to demand a refund of the 4,500 Ghana cedis he invested in the company.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Agyemang Badu told the court presided over by her ladyship, Joan King, that Otu demanded 7,000 ghana cedis as a ransom for the release of the child.

He said after a complaint was lodged, the father in collaboration with the Police were able to trace Otu and arrested at Techiman.

Otu, according to ASP Badu then led them to where he had hidden the young girl.

The convict argued that Jastar’s failure to pay him when his investment was due resulted in the death of his mother.

He said after his mother’s death, he could not stand the frustration hence his decision to kidnap the girl to demand his money.

He pleaded with the court for mercy but the judge ignored his plea for leniency and sentenced him to five years.

Meanwhile the Chief Executive Officer of Jastar Motors, Charles Asu, Martin Delle of DKM, among others have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit court.
