Future CPP Flag Bearer Aspirant Must Hold Executive Position

Anybody seeking to contest the flag-bearer slot of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the future will have to hold an executive position within the party and might have also served as a member of the party for five years.

This means such an aspirant must  hold position at the contituency, regional or national level.

The position of the National Youth Organiser of the party will now be elected by congress.

The Chairman of the party’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee, Mr Bright Oblitei Akwetey, announced this at the national delegates congress of the party at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre at La, near Accra, at the weekend.

Mr Akwetey,  who also contested as presidential aspirant, told the delegates at the congress that the decision was taken during a meeting of the National Executive Council of the party on Saturday, January 30, 2016.

He said the decision followed an amendment to section 79 of the party’s constitution.

A motion to that effect was carried by the congress when the question was put without any dissent.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr Felix Amoah, reminded the delegates of the tradition of discipline and respect on which the party was founded and asked all to abide by those values and principles.

Mr Amoah further reminded the flag bearer aspirants of their pledge to support whoever would emerge as the winner during the congress and said the party would hold them accountable for the pledge.

He said any blame for the dwindling fortunes of the party should be shared by all and added that since victory came on the heels of hard work, they should work hard to achieve victory.

He said Ghanaians were crying for the return of a CPP government to restore their lost hopes and opportunities that the party promoted during its rule.

The National Chairman of the party, Professor Edmund Delle, said never again would the CPP surrender its independence to any group but would remain resolute and stand up as it had done over the years.

He said the party had the men to lead it to prosecute its agenda of winning power once more to champion the vision of its founder, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who won independence for the country and charted a positive path for its rapid socio-economic development.
