AMA Blows GHc5,000 On Korle Bu Police

Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, has made financial expenses on the Korle Bu police, which has cost the Assembly GHc5,000.

The GH5, 000 was expenses covering the purchase of a motorbike and 10 refuse bins for use by the Korle Bu Police in Accra.

It follows a request by the police to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly last year who had indicted their inability to purchase the bins and the bike on their own.

The Mayor, who was accompanied by an entourage from the Assembly, particularly Assemblymen, issued a stern warning against diverting the items for private use.

At the short ceremony at the premises of the Korle Bu Police station over the weekend, the Mayor, who is also the Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress for the Ablekuma South constituency promised to monitor how the items would be used.

For him, refuse bins are for keeping refuse until they are carted away by refuse tracks and not for the storage of water, as some people decide to do.

According to him, the bins should not be used for keeping clothing and clothes of individuals because that is not its use.

Failure to adhere to this, he explained exposes the environment to filth because there would be no bins to dump refuse when there is littering.

The presentation, he further explained, will be beneficial because of the police quarters around the station which is occupied by families of the police officers and their relatives.

The District Commander at the Korle Bu Police Station, ASP Theodore Essilfie, promised to do as it has been directed by the Mayor by ensuring that the bins and the bike are put to their intended purposes.
