The newly-elected flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Ivor Greenstreet has condemned claims that he bribed delegates to win the party’s presidential primary on Saturday.

Mr Greenstreet polled 1,288 votes out of the 1,992 valid votes cast to beat Samia Nkrumah - daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah - who obtained 579 votes.

Commenting after the results were declared, Madam Nkrumah, alleged that voters had been bribed between GH¢200 and GH¢500 to vote for Mr Greenstreet.

But in a reaction on Accra-based radio station, Joy FM, Mr Greenstreet described Madam Samia’s claim as self-delusional.

He said he won because he worked tireless, campaigning across constituencies in the country.

“This election was bought, but bought by my service, bought by my loyalty, bought by my commitment , bought by the fact that they knew that I am the best-placed person to speak for the party.They have heard me speak on national platforms. They believe I speak eloquently. They believe that I speak the true values of the party,” he said.

Mr Greenstreet added that the delegates believed that he was the one who could unify the party and bring all factions together.

“The rank and file do not take decisions on who to vote for by media campaigns in Accra,” he added.
