Bunkprugu Rendered A Ghost Town

Many residents of Bunkprugu in the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region have fled the town following the renewed conflict between the Jamong and Jafok Gates in the area.

When The Ghanaian Times visited Bunkprugu at the weekend, normal business activities were totally absent there.

The market square was empty, as no single businessman or woman was seen there at the time of the visit.

The men vanished from the town when they heard the IGP was to visit the area on Saturday.

It was only women and children, as well as a few elders who were seen in town.

A resident, Madam Abena, in an interview with The Ghanaian Times said majority of the people had fled the town since the incident occurred on Tuesday.

A teacher of the Bunkprugu LA Primary School, who pleaded anonymity, said many of the teachers were contemplating leaving the area, as some of the schools were empty.

Last Tuesday night, clashes between the two chieftaincy gates claimed three lives, with a number of houses burnt.

Meanwhile, clam has returned to the area as security has been beefed up to ensure law and order.
