Years After NDC Car Killed 2, Paralysed One In Gory AccidentDestitute Family Cries For Help

Barely six days to the 2012 general elections the Misiame family of Akyem Batabi , in the Eastern Region recorded the saddest day ever, when a speeding vehicle belonging to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Koforidua heading to Achiase, veered off the road, killing  their mother and younger sister instantly.

Almost four years on, the family is appealing to the top hierarchy of the party to come to their aid to be able to put food on the table for their jobless diabetic father, who is yet to recover from shocks, as a result of the loss of his beloved wife and daughter.

According to the family, apart from the excruciating pains of losing their younger sister, Christiana Misiame, who was then a form 1 student at the Akroso Senior High School, Madam Comfort Vifah (65 years) was their breadwinner, and since her demise, life had become a living hell.

On 1st December 2012, a Nissan pick-up with registration number GC 4381-12, belonging to the party’s Achiase Branch, on reaching the Akim Batabi township, veered off the road and knocked down the victims, including one other Janet Donkor (Christiana’s ‘school mother’), who only survived the accident, but got paralyzed due to serious injuries sustained, the New Crusading GUIDE has gathered.

The Nissan vehicle, according to the police, was loaded with 220 ballot boxes, 20 pieces of footballs and NDC posters, with two persons on board.

Christiana Misiame and Janet Donkor had gone to visit madam Comfort Vifah for medication from school, before they met the tragedy.

“Other occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, one Yaw Adu Francis Williams, sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital for treatment, but Janet Donkor, whose condition was critical was rushed to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua”, the police hinted.

However, further investigations conducted by this reporter indicated that, one Dr. Apea Kubi, who contested the Achiase parliamentary slot on the ticket of the NDC, had ordered for the party posters and footballs from Koforidua for his campaign.

Our checks revealed that the party’s executives at the district level set up a four-member committee and mandated it to make sure the bodies of Comfort Vifah and her daughter were buried.

“But right after the funeral, we never heard from them again, I quite remember they only gave us ¢5000(by the then DCE), some canopies and chairs for the funeral and that was all. We tried all we could to reach them again but none of them was ready to hear us, our mother was the family’s breadwinner, especially our father, now he is old and cannot do anything for himself...He is currently battling with diabetes and how to get him drugs are even a problem to us, its four years now and the insurance company of the vehicle that knocked them down are still tossing us up and down”, one of the family members explained whilst sobbing.

Meanwhile, one Mr. Sakyi, head of the four-member committee set up by the party, when contacted said they only played their role as directed by the party; to only see to the funeral arrangements and not for compensation.

“And I’m sure we would have as well delivered if we were asked to negotiate with the family on anything like compensation”, he noted.
