Tension In NDC As November 7 Election Beckons

Predictions by men of God, Seers and some political analysts that, notwithstanding the deep rooted cracks in the opposition New Patriotic Party, the NPP was likely to supplant President John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress administration in the November 7 elections seems to be gaining ground faster than anticipated, The aL-hAJJ can authoritatively report.

While functionaries and supporters of the governing party are banking on the unprecedented achievements of government to do them magic in the November polls, intelligence this paper is picking indicates that all is not well within the NDC and that deep cracks are unexpectedly manifesting amongst leadership of the party.

Even though there has not been open, and reported cases of infighting among the leadership of the NDC as the NPP, The aL-hAJJ can confidently state that, all is not well in the NDC party and government.

Simmering tension among the various blocks and factions arising from the elections that got national officers and parliamentary candidates elected is now reaching its climax and until ‘something’ urgent is done to curb the imminent explosive situation; power is likely to slip through the hands of the party come November 7.

Barely nine months to the next Presidential and Parliamentary elections, The aL-hAJJ can confirm of serious division and rising tension among the national officers of the party to the extent that the NDC is now sharply divided along the lines of its National Chairman and General Secretary.

While the National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy is said to be enjoying support from two vice chairmen, National Organizer, the National Women Organizer among others including some MPs, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, according to our reliable findings, has the backing of four vice chairmen, some members of Parliament, his deputies and some government appointees.

Dependable sources at the party headquarters told The aL-hAJJ that, the present bickering and tension among the leadership of the governing party surpasses the acrimony in the opposition NPP, but “the reason why it is not in the media is that the party is in power therefore, each of the sides are presently threading cautiously but, one can never tell when it will burst out of control”

A source disclosed that the present challenges in the NDC is akin to the NPP’s last days in office “where even when the party was saddled with numerous problems arising out of similar primaries, it was suppressed because they were in power and that greatly contributed to their defeat in the 2008 elections.”

“Nobody wants to come out openly to attack his opponent but they are subtly but seriously fighting. If you see them at public gatherings, they smile and do all the things protocol demand of them but all is not well at all”.

NDC founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings is already warning NDC is likely to lose the November elections unless President Mahama reinvigorates his government.

Political watchers also say power is gradually slipping through the hands of the NDC as all the signs that caused the defeat of NPP in the 2008 and the “downfall” of Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s government in Nigeria last year are visible in the party.

Last week, outspoken deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho let out the hint that all was not well within the party.

Mr. Anyidoho, publicly on an Accra based radio station announced that NDC National Executives have decided at a meeting to take control of the 2016 campaign of the party from the Presidency which is unusual.

Koku Anyidoho, who said the decision was sanctioned by the leadership of the party further, warned that anybody at the presidency who dares to hijack the 2016 campaign would be “crushed’ and “shown his smoothness level.

Adding, “Ghanaians are already angry…people are expressing legitimate concerns so we must be seen doing things in a modest way. Those who are planning to put up electronic billboards for the president are warned to desist from it. The party will take over the 2016 campaign and manage it.” Stay tuned
