Agogo/Fulanis Saga: Opinion Leaders Must Watch Their Rhetoric - Oppong Nkrumah

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has waded into discussions involving Fulanis and the residents at Agogo.

Agogo residents have been complaining bitterly about the barbaric treatment meted out to their farmers by the Fulanis.

Some deaths have been reported resulting from the confrontations between the Fulanis and the residents.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kojo Oppong Nkrumah pleaded with the opinion leaders of the community and the country's leaders to be wary of their utterances regarding the situation.

According to him, the residents are fired up to take revenge on the Fulanis because of the comments by some leaders of the community and the State at large.

To him, "opinion leaders must watch their rhetoric.”

He was hopeful should the leaders stop inciting the residents and opt for a peaceful resolution to the issue, the Agogo community will become safe for both parties.

In latest development, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has deployed military personnel and policemen from the capital to Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region to drive out the nomadic Fulani herdsmen, who have been terrorizing inhabitants of the area.

A total of 40 policemen and 20 military officers will help security officers already in the community to protect residents.
