Zoomlion Angry

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZLGL), Mr. Robert Coleman, has taken a swipe at the print and electronic media of what he said was a  “deliberate” attempt to ignore the National Sanitation Day (NSD).

According to him, the decision by the media organisations  not  to create the necessary awareness for the  national clean-up exercise amounts to “national disobedience.”

Speaking in an interview with Okay FM in Accra, recently , the Zoomlion PRO who sounded worried  was unhappy about the way and manner the media rather focused  on the negative effects of the national sanitation day which was initiated by the  Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

“Kwame Nkrumah Tikese (Referring to the host of Okay FM morning show host) I know that the statement I am going to make is very controversial one but let me say it is  on records that  the reason why the National Sanitation Day programme is going down is  because of  how the media have decided to ignore the programme”.

“Look February 14, 2016 is Valentine Day and do you that a number of radio stations have started promoting the day…A lot of stations have started saying Valentine day ooo! Valentine oooo!! And Valentine ooo!!! Sixth March is coming and you will  hear a lot of radio stations again  promoting the day but when it comes to the sanitation day nothing is done by the media”, he averred.

He stressed that, “the media do not give us publication but “we when we  finish any clean-up exercise and if there is a refuge dumped at certain places  which our people did not collect  on time, the media would be interested in criticizing us”

Against this back group, Mr. Coleman called on the media to create more awareness on sanitation and hygiene, especially on the effects of open defecation.

Mr. Coleman stressed that , the media should e complement the efforts of Zoomlion and government by influencing the behavioural change of the people towards proper sanitation in the country.
