Andre Ayew shortlisted for Swansea best for January

The Ghana international could lay hands on yet another award after being named among three candidates for the monthly prize.

Swansea winger Andre Ayew has been nominated for the club’s Player of the Month for January award, having already picked the accolade on three previous occasions.

The Ghanaian is in line for the first gong of the New Year alongside team-mates Ashley Williams and Leon Britton.

With two goals and appearances in all four league matches played in the month under review, Ayew looks set to clinch the award for the fourth time.

The 26-year-old found the back of the net in matches against Sunderland and Everton, having as well won separate penalties for his side in both games.

Williams and Britton similarly featured in all four games, with the former going ahead to score the solitary goal in the win over Watford.

Ayew previously claimed the award for the months of August, October and November, having also been adjudged English Premier League Player for August, African Best Player in the Premier League for same month, among others.

The attacker was, however, beaten to the 2015 BBC African Footballer of the Year award by Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, as well as the 2016 African Footballer of the Year prize by Gabon and Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Ayew has been in impressive form for the Jacks since joining from French side Marseille last summer, and currently boasts of eight league goals in 24 matches.
