Consumers Are Always Right - Nana Yaa Jantuah Tells ECG

Public Affairs Director of PURC Nana Yaa Jantuah says the Commission has the welfare of Ghanaians at heart and will not endanger them.

Speaking on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Nana Yaa Jantuah told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the Commission has not been sitting idle but rather working assiduously to ensure the utility consumers are given better services.

According to her, the Commission has been negotiating with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to alleviate the energy situation in the country, with regard to electricity tariffs.

She noted that contrary to views by electricity consumers in the country that the PURC are not working in their favour to better their lives, the Commission will always hold the utility providers, particularly ECG accountable to users.

Nana Yaa Jantuah, who was in the studio of Peace FM to discuss the subsidy percentages placed on electricity tariffs to help consumers, believed the PURC has not neglected the people they serve.

“Our law says we should cater for consumers and utility service providers. We’re balancing it well. If you don’t do the right thing, we will address it. We will hold you responsible. We will punish you. The consumer pays you the money. So, the consumer is always right.”

She however commended the ECG for relieving consumers by conforming to directives to reduce electricity tariffs by 45% and 50% for lifeline consumers and vulnerable groups.
