Akufo Addo Drags FM Station To NMC

The New Patriotic party (NPP) has dragged Muntie FM, an Accra radio station, to the National Media Commission (NMC) for maligning the person of its 2016 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to the NPP in a letter to the Chairman of the NMC, Kwasi Gyan Appenteng, Muntie FM’s continuous denigration of its presidential candidate on its afternoon broadcast segment, titled ‘Pampaso’ and anchored by Mugabe Maase, was “highly unethical.

The letter was under the signature of Nana Akomea, Communication Director of the NPP.

According to the letter, the ‘Pampaso’ programme being aired on Muntie FM seemed to the NPP as a deliberate set up dedicated to the “libelous and unfounded attacks on the person of Nana Akuffo Addo.

“This agenda, we believe, is highly unprofessional, unethical” it read, stating that if not addressed by the NMC, it could plunge the country into mayhem, as individuals would be compelled to establish media houses solely for the purpose of “running down innocent citizens, particularly, political leaders” for some dubious political gain.

The NPP’s letter of petition, therefore, urged the NMC to sanction Muntie FM and the host of the ‘Pampaso’ show for professional misconduct and any other media house that would traverse that tangent in the future, warning that if this gross display of unprofessionalism goes unchecked, it would plunge the country into chaos.

According to the letter” “This practice of devoting media programmes solely to peddling untruths about a political leaders, if unchecked, will engender other media also devoting programmes to peddling untruths against other leaders.

Undoubtedly, it would lead “us all down a very slippery slope in this volatile election year,” the letter added, advising the NMC to investigate the petition against Muntia FM.
