All Is Not Well At Tafo Until . . . Ashanti Regional Police PRO

Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Yussif Tanko says Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region is not serene until the exact tale following the clashes between the Muslim youth and the indigenes of the area are resolved amicably out of the various negotiations put in place by the authorities involved.

He indicated that “security Agents have for now done their best to calm down the clashes, paving way for authorities involved in redressing the issue to do their work well as residents await their final verdict with focused attention. It has also paved the way for residents to complete their daily activities without fear or panic.”

The clashes have so far left one person dead with a lot of properties destroyed.

He noted that the 8pm to 4am curfew imposed in the town is still active until further notice.

“Persons caught on suspicion have been released on bail as investigations continue because no charge has been made against them. He added that should any of them be found guilty after investigations he/she would be brought to book according to the laws of the land,” he noted in an interview with OKAY FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' host Kwame Nkrumah.

However, the committee set up by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to mediate the dispute between the traditional council and the Muslim community in Tafo has been extended as the committee is expected to look at the extent of damage and make recommendations to sustain the peace in the area.
