Doctors, Nurses Resume Duties @ Wa Hospital

Health care delivery services at the Wa Regional Hospital, in the Upper West Region, have returned to normal after Monday’s protest by junior doctors and nurses against the appointment of Dr. Bannabas Gandaa, as the Medical Director of the facility.

This followed the suspension of their protest by the staffs who have agreed with the Ghana Health Service to use dialogue in resolving the impasse.

The protest left scores of patients who had gone to the facility on Monday for treatment, stranded as medical series were suspended.

The situation was, however, different yesterday, as patients who visited the facility received full attention from the medical personnel on duty.

At the Out-Patients Department (OPD), the nurses also attended to the large crowd of patients present, while doctors were at all four consulting rooms also attending to the sick.

Some patients who spoke to The Ghanaian Times, expressed their appreciation to the staff for resolving to return to work.

Nazila Ibrahim, a patient, said she had to return home to seek alternative health care for her three-year old child due to the protest.

She noted that even though she procured some medication at the drug store for the child, the child’s condition had not improved that much and that was the main reason why she was back at the hospital.

Madam Ibrahim appealed to the authorities to resolve the issue quickly in order to forestall the recurrence of what happened on Monday.
