Ashanti Records 339 Fire Outbreaks In One Month

Ashanti Region recorded a total of 339 fire outbreaks in the month of January alone, resulting in massive destruction of property.

The Regional Fire Officer, Mr. Semekor Fiadzo, who announced this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the situation was disturbing.

Bushfires topped the number of fire incidents during the period with as many as 165 outbreaks.

He pointed out that the incident of domestic fires reported was also high – 73 of these reported.

The rest involved commercial, industrial vehicular, institutional, electrical and other fires.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Fiadzo said every effort was being made to drastically reduce and prevent fire disasters.

They have stepped up safety education with visits to schools, churches, mosques, institutions and homes to help the people to do the right things.

He underlined their resolve to enforce laws on fire prevention and vowed to prosecute anybody who failed to obtain fire certificate before constructing a public building.

ACFO Fiadzo advised the people to desist from the use of sub-standard electrical products.

They should also make sure that they engaged the services of professionals to do the electrical wiring in their buildings.
