EC Must Dissolve 'NDC-Biased' Steering Committee . . . - Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has called on the Electoral Commission Chairperson Madam Charlotte Osei to dissolve the 18-member November 7 elections steering Committee.

The Steering Committee was set up by the Electoral Commission (EC) to steer affairs of the November 7 elections this year.

But several political actors have raised red flags over some names on the Committee and called for those people to be removed from the Committee.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the NPP's Parliamentary candidate for Ofoase-Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah advised the EC to heed his request for a dissolution of the Committee and then consult with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to roll out strategies for the elections this year.

According to him, the EC should not have taken a decision to set up the Committee without first seeking the consent of the IPAC.

“They should dissolve the Committee and consulting at IPAC. For everybody to speak his mind and they should do it well.”

He also urged the EC not to tamper with its mandate to act without any interference.

Quoting Article 46 of the 1992 constitution which reads that "except as provided in this Constitution or in any other law not inconsistent with this Constitution, in the performance of its functions, the Electoral Commission shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority"; Kojo Oppong Nkrumah further questioned the mandate of the Committee members regarding the affairs of the EC.

“Justice must only be done but must be seen to be done. People must have confidence to accept that what you are doing is in the right direction," he added.
