Two men who allegedly attacked a businessman at Ofaakor, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region, and robbed him of GH¢9,898 worth of mobile scratch cards and GH¢12,594 cash while wielding a toy gun have been arrested.

The two suspects are Emmanuel Asiedu, alias Tagor, 29, and Sampson Agbeko, alias Kojovi, 27.

Residents of the area apprehended Asiedu following shouts for help by the businessman, who sustained an injury in the head when he was hit with a heavy object by his attackers.

Agbeko, who managed to escape, was later arrested by the police on a tip-off after the victim had filed a report with them.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Kasoa Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr Joseph Oklu Gyamera, said the businessman told the police that he was returning home from work about 9:30 p.m. on January 11, 2016 when the two men attacked him with a ‘gun’.

He said they hit his head with a heavy object and took away his bag which contained the money and the mobile phone scratch cards.

Mr Gyamera said some Good Samaritans who heard the businessman shouting gave the two attackers a hot chase when the businessman told them he had been robbed.

A search on Asiedu after he was arrested by the Good Samaritans led to the retrieval of a toy gun believed to have been used to threaten and frighten the businessman.

Later, he said, the police arrested Agbeko from his hideout and retrieved the money and the scratch cards from him.

Mr Gyamera commended the residents for responding to the shouts of the businessman for help and handling over the suspect to the police for the law to deal with him.

He urged the public not to lynch suspected criminals, adding that a number of suspects had been lynched in recent times by residents.
