Let My Vote Count Pleased ...

Anti-government pressure group 'Let My Vote Count Alliance' has welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission to suspend the 18-member Steering Committee recently inaugurated ahead of this year’s elections.

The EC announced the suspension of the Committee at an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, February 19. “We are pleased with the decision of the EC emerging from the IPA C meeting,” said Convener David Boateng Asante on TV3’s News in Brief.

He commended the move as expedient for the democratic credentials of the country. Mr Asante, however, asked the Commission to sit up as he considers the setting up of the Steering Committee as a deep goof and a dent in the public image of the EC.

The Alliance as well as some opposition political parties raised concerns about the membership of the Steering Committee, tagging it as biased towards the ruling party.

Three names – Dr Karl Mark Arhin, Joe Whittal and Francis Azumiah – came to the fore as known to be strongly affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
