Government will take care of the medical bills of surviving victims of last Wednesday's deadly crash at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region, President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed.

“Government is doing everything to assist them,” President Mahama said.

“We have asked that their medical bills be taken care of in the hospitals they have been sent to and so we will see how we can assist to make it easier on the families.”

The president made this known on Friday, February 19 after he swore in the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, at the Flagstaff House. The accident on the Kumasi-Tamale road resulted in the loss of 71 lives with only 25 survivors.

The mangled Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 7131 Y has since been towed to Kumasi, where it headed from. Investigations by the police and the Metro Mass Transit Company Limited have already been launched into the accident.

“I know you are still investigating but there are all kinds of rumours about brake failure and all that,” remarked President Mahama, “and so I believe that working with the transport organizations, we should see how we can bring down the rate of accidents in our country.”

He commended the swift reaction of the police service to the accident scene.
