NPP member Nana Fredua has waded into discussions regarding the Elections Steering Committee of the Electoral Commission, calling on the Commission not to make decisions without the consent of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

Nana Fredua, addressing the issue on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, raised serious concerns about the constitutionality of the Steering Committee.

He questioned the logic in setting up the Committee and the inclusion of national service personnel in the election process.

“Why the National Service personnel? Who says they are the only solution to this problem . . . we don’t really get the clear sense of what’s going on.”

He further advised the EC to "work with the IPAC. If they want us to believe them, then they should get everyone involved. They must stick to the agenda (the convention)" and reminded the EC of its accountability to Ghanaians.

According to him, the EC as a Commission does not work on its accord but is mandated by the citizenry to steer Ghana's elections and so should not joepardize their mandate.

He also urged the EC to heed the advice by Ghana's Ex-Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour.

Mr. Rawlings has called on the EC to ensure transparency in the November 7 elections, saying "it appears people have reached a saturation point, nevertheless what is important is for all stakeholders to ensure the highest level of vigilance is maintained to guarantee peaceful elections," while Ex-President Kufuor tasked the EC to put Ghana first.
