Baba Rahman donates cash to former youth club Dreams FC

After their maiden victory in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, the Blues defender has made a cash donation to the side he left four years ago.

Ghana and Chelsea defender Abdul Rahman Baba has extended his kind gestures to his former club Dreams FC by making a cash donation following their 1-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs in their Ghana Premier League debut game on Saturday.

Baba, 21, started his career at Dreams FC in the third-tier league before joining Kotoko on loan in 2011 and subsequently moving to German side Greuther Furth.

Dreams FC communications officer Henry Asante confirmed the donation, thanking the player.

“Baba has sent an undisclosed amount to the club after the spirited performance that earned us our first ever victory in our first game of the Ghana top-flight,” Asante told Goal.

“Management wants to keep the amount under the raps but the cash reached us on Monday as a surprise. We shall disclose the news to the players at the training grounds on Tuesday even before the technical team begins the hard day's work.

“It's a good way to kick start the league season. Baba has promised to do more once we continue with a consistent performance,” he added.

Asante also advised former players of the club to take a clue from the gestures of the Ghana international to also help the club in their own small ways in order to continue nurturing other potential stars in the future.

“We are happy to receive this awesome gift from Baba. What we always tell our players is that they shouldn't forget where they started their career when life smiles at them in the future, they can return to help nurture talents. We don't expect much but something in their own small ways just like others did while they were here. This benevolence will help project the young ones also onto the world stage in the future.”

Goal understands that each player is expected to earn at least $500 as winning bonus and the amount will increase if they are able to surmount the bulwark defence of Bechem United in their first ever GPL home fixture at Dawu Park on Match day two, scheduled for February 28.
