Newmont Worker Commits Suicide

Philp Danso, a 35 year old  worker of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (Ahafo Mine) at Kenyase in Asutifi North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region last Sunday committed suicide  in his apartment at Abesim in the Sunyani  Municipality.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Brong Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that Danso, who lived with his wife and three children last Saturday morning left the house enraged after a quarrel with his wife.

He returned to the apartment on the dawn of Sunday around 3:30 hours in a drunken state and in the evening refused to sleep in the bedroom he had always shared with his wife and spent the night in another room, ASP Tawiah said.

ASP Tawiah said on Monday morning, the wife who had entered the room to see her husband, chanced upon the horrific sight of her husband’s body hanging from his belt which had been attached to the ceiling of the room.

He said the woman raised an alarm which attracted some neighbours to the scene and they found that Danso’s body was lifeless.

ASP Tawiah stated that police at the scene saw a piece of paper written by deceased in the room which read “enough is enough. I was almost in a jail”.

He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Sunyani Regional hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.
