Madam Barbara Ennin, headmistress of Tema State School for the Deaf has threatened to mobilise her pupils and students on a wild demonstration, should her residence be ‘washed’ with human excreta again.
The vexed headmistress had suffered a ‘shit bomb’ attack at her residence on the campus, but not mince words that another attack would force her to let the students of the school don red arm bands and march to the Tema Education Directorate, where she will petition the office to provide the school with night and day security.
Madam Barbara Ennin told The Chronicle that for two weeks, her residence was awash with human excreta, either wrapped in black polythene bags or in some cases unwrapped. The inhuman activity, she said, happened when she had left for school or late in the night when everybody was asleep, and the persons engaged in the dastardly act are able to have access to the school because it has no security personnel at the school’s main gates.
The Tema State School for the Deaf used to be a thoroughfare and had some squatter’s resident on parts of the school land. Madam Barbara Ennin, however, ejected the encroachers and subsequently erected fence wall to secure the school’s property. Her actions, she believed, did not sit well with the squatters and some of the area’s youth, mostly male, who play football on the school’s park, whilst lessons are in progress.
During school hours, the male teachers prevent the youth from entering the school to play football or cool off under the airy trees. Some drivers also drive their vehicles into the school to wash them. However, the construction of the fence wall around the school land and the subsequent vigilance of the male teachers from preventing people from entering the school to disrupt teaching and learning have caused severe disaffection for Madam Barbara.
Another action by her that she believes caused her to suffer the shit bombing attack was her bracing of the doors of the ‘death trap’ toilet facility on the school compound. The toilet, she said, was accessed by most residents of the area and beyond. Following her ordeal, Madam Barbara said her health has been badly affected because of how nauseating some of the faeces were.
She narrated that she disinfected her floor and burnt the human excreta, with the smoke from the burning faecal matter engulfing her rooms and interior decors. The headmistress said she earlier reported the matter to the area’s assemblyman, who visited her residence to witness the incident. The assemblyman subsequently reported the matter to the police.
According to her, a policeman visited her only once and promised to act when another shit bombing attack is mounted on her. The headmistress told The Chronicle that she had personally requested security for the school from the Tema Education Directorate and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, yet the two bodies have not responded to her formal request.
“When there are two security men at the two main gates of the school, nobody can have access into the school to misbehave or act irresponsibly. My wards and staff and I need security men at our gates. My wards in the school are vulnerable,” she explained.
Madam Barbara Ennin said she was ready to face the sack if she organises the school to go on demonstration if only it will solve the challenges of the school. “I am not afraid to be sacked provided my actions will bring relief and security to my successor,” she boldly said.
