AshGold eliminated from CAF Champions League

Ashanti Gold suffered elimination from this year’s CAF Champions League following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Algeria Club MO Bejaia.

The Ghanaian Champions had secured a narrow 1-0 victory over their counterparts in the first leg match in Ghana before losing the return encounter played at the Stade de l'Unité Maghrébin in Algeria on Sunday.

Having gone down after just 13 minutes in the game following an own goal by Hudu Yakubu, AshGold managed to pull parity by getting an important away goal on the stroke of half time, thanks to a strike from Emmanuel Osei.

The miners could however not hold on as they conceded two more goals from their opponents after Soufiane Khadir, Okacha Hamzaoui scored to see the Ghanaians exit the competition on a 3-2 aggregate.

Ghana has thus failed to have a representative go past the first round in CAF Champions League for the last three years.

AshGold’s elimination means Medeama SC are now Ghana’s sole representative in Africa currently awaiting their opponent in the CAF Confederations Cup.
