Honour Your Tax Obligations For Developmental Projects - Minister

Ghanaians have been urged to honour their tax obligations to the Ghana Revenue Authority so that sufficient resources could be mobilized to initiate developmental projects.

Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, made the call when he performed a ground-breaking ceremony at Anlo-Beach in the Shama District, to commence the construction of a 19.65 kilometre road estimated at the cost of GHC 12.5 million.

The roads earmarked for asphalting comprised Asemasa/Anlo-Beach, Old Daboase Junction/Atwereboanda and Borkorkope/ Nyankrom Junction/Nyankrom.

The rest are Komfueku/Dwomo, Akromakrom Junction/Akromakrom and Adaasi/Kwame Asare.

He said with the availability of adequate funds, the Government and the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies  would undertake more of such projects in order to enhance the living standards of the citizenry.

The Deputy Minister said the road project, which was awarded to Messrs Newcase Properties and Investment Limited, was captured in this year’s budget, and it would contribute towards the economic development of the beneficiary communities.

“The project is expected to yield increased productivity of goods and services in the beneficiary communities and boost economic activities such as farming, fishing and trading”, he said.

Mr Gyan said the completion of the road would open up the beneficiary communities to investments and tourism as well as address other challenges facing agriculture, education, health and general transportation in the area.

Mr Joseph Mienzah, the Regional Director for the Department of Feeder Road, said government has identified 5,500 km of deplorable roads in the Region for upgrading to improve accessibility and quality of life of the people.

Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, who is the MP for Wassa East, said the Region contributed more than fifty percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Products, however, this has not translated into infrastructural development.

Therefore, he said, the National Democratic Congress Government under President John Mahama has resolved to make the people in the Region receive their fair share of the national cake, hence the allocation of the road project.

Mr Gabriel Kwodwo Essilfie, the Member of Parliament for the area, said government has kept the promise it made to the people of Anlo-Beach and its surrounding communities about three years ago with regards to tarring the road adding that when they renew their mandate, more of such projects would be brought to the District.

The ceremony was graced by the acting President of the Shama Traditional Council, Nana Kwamina Wienu II, government officials and representatives of the contractors.
