The Ghana Meteorological Agency has cautioned the public to be extra cautious to avoid potential casualties following this morning’s rainfall.

Mr. Frederick Otu-Larbi, Assistant Meteorologist who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Monday said the hot atmosphere and the moisture from the sea had resulted in the development of clouds for some time now, which had resulted in this morning’s down pour.

“The rainy season would begin in the Southern part of the country between the first and second week of April, while we expect the North to start experiencing the rainy season in May.

Mr. Otu-Larbi said such random rainfall outside the rainy season was common, adding that this morning’s was not un-usual.

“We could experience one or two of such rainfall before the major rainy season begins,” he said.

Some rain fall figures for this morning given by Mr. Otu-Larbi which he described as quite high were, Accra-59 millimeters (mm), Asamankese -125 mm, and Bunsu along the Kumasi high way-100 mm.

He said whilst the rain had reduced to just a slight drizzle in Accra and was not likely to intensify any more, “it was still raining in the Western and Central Regions”.

The rains which started at dawn and lasted till approximately 11.00 am, has left parts of the capital, notably the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and the Graphic Road flooded.
