It is an unmistakable fact that the NDC does propaganda with everything. I don’t think anybody will not score hundred percent if he or she calls them corrupt and incompetent.
The NDC does not care a hoot about Ghana and it is no wonder that in their analysis of Ghana they only refer to 8 years of president Kuffour and 8 years of presidents Mill and Mahama, forgetting that they had 19 years in PNDC and NDC combined.
As a matter of fact the NDC has had 16 out of our 24 years of the 4th republic, therefore it is embarrassing for them to say the NPP governments failure in adding to our power infrastructure is what led to “Dumsor” I want to urge Ghanaians to squarely put the blame on the table of the NDC. What did the NDC do to shore up our energy? Ras Mubarak even agrees that the NDC has failed on power.
It is equally laughable for the NDC to blame the depreciation of the cedi on the NPP, this is because the NPP through prudent policy ensured that the cedi depreciated by on 50 pesewas in their entire 8 years from 75 pesewas (¢7500) to GHC 1.20p. Under the NDC the cedi has depreciated form GHC1.2p to GHC 4 in a little over 7 years. I know the NDC and the governor of Bank of Ghana know their guilt in the free fall of the cedi. Economics is also common sense.
President Kufour and for that matter the NPP inherited a HIPC economy but consistently grew it from a less than 4 percent GDP to 8.4 percent before leaving office in 2008. Regrettably the nation that was described by American President, Barak Obama as a star of Africa in 2009 needed a paltry sum bailout from the IMF. Mind you Ghana’s attainment of lower middle income status was masterminded by the NPP.
Typical of the NDC propaganda, they swore heaven and earth when Alhaji Dr. Bawumia the NPP vice presidential candidate cautioned them against the health of the economy. They called him all kinds of names. But like pregnancy which cannot be hidden, NDC with cup in hand went to the IMF for their lack of vision and indiscipline.
Let’s go back memory lane, the NDC who campaigned on the “better Ghana agenda” in 2008 have succeeded in eroding all the gains of mother Ghana. They immediately dropped our growth rate from 8.4 to 4.1 percent in 2009. All social interventions introduced by the NPP have all suffered setbacks. School feeding, National Health Insurance, Free Maternal Care, Mass Cocoa Spraying yet they pride themselves as Social Democrats.
Sadly in 2014, the Financial Times published that Ghana has tarnished her rising star image; again in 2014 Alhaji Dr. Bawumia predicted that Ghana was heading for HIPC. Today the chorus is on everybody’s lips. Mr. Kenneth Thompson CEO of Dalex Financial Services says “Ghana is broke and our children will suffer”.
The performance of the NDC has been abysmal on all sectors that one wonders if they were ready for power or they came for power to pretend to govern. Today with oil find, all statutory funds are in arrears.
Employment
Unemployment is at unprecedented level; the NDC claims to have built more schools in Ghana yet teacher trainees are unemployed. Their green book contains concoctions of health facilities built or expanded but nursing graduates demonstrate regularly that they are home and don’t know when they will be posted for work. Agriculture.
Today Ghana a net cocoa exporter, imports cocoa from Ivory Coast, our cocoa processing companies are producing below capacity for lack of raw materials i.e. cocoa beans. Our agriculture continues to make a negative growth.
Corruption
In 2010 the NDC published in their “better Ghana” book that they have equipped the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) at the time to Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Giving it more resources and independence to fight crime, yet do we see? Appointees who are implicated in corruption are either transferred from one ministry to another or to the seat of the president. Until recently when Mrs. Attivor and Dr. Donkor allegedly resigned nobody had been reprimanded for corruption under NDC. “Ameri”, Karpower, ENI project, Bus branding, SADA, SUBAH, GYEEDA etc.
The Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM) can never be excused for corruption after spending a colossal GHC 220,000 to fence a cemetery. The same CEDECOM had listed amongst their 2011 projects a piggery project, costing GHC100, 000 in Assin Manso but the project could not be found. Myjoyonline.com 15th Sept. 2014.
The resourced and independent EOCO has conveniently been prevented by government to investigate none of the above cases.
It is only under NDC where a government official billed to travel for a conference in Cuba stays in a hotel in Tema with his “side issue” to enjoy himself and he is not dismissed but asked to refund the expenses covering his travel to Cuba.
The issues of corruption can be several pages and be a topic for so many articles but I will end here.
Good people of Ghana I know you will not be deceived by the artificial show of care NDC in commissioning and cutting sod for projects they know they will not finish. They are doing so because in the projects is the cash which would be used to buy electorates.
Health
The track record of the NDC in health, the least said about it the better; I would like you to ask yourself whether you will not be interested to travel to a well resourced hospital far from you than have a hospital close by that lacks everything to deliver health. Korle-bu has had to close not 1, not 2 but 3 surgical wards due to a paltry GHC700, 000 when it is owed GHC 8 million by the NHIA alone.
Government pride itself in building hospitals yet the existing ones are death traps. Today paracetamol is the only medicine readily available for any kind of sickness. Why build more when you cannot maintain the little you have.
I do not want to engage in the politics of running government down here are a few things I want you to judge the NPP and NDC with so that you will vote for “Change” to come and take Ghana out of our HIPC condition.
We need not to talk about infrastructural development because it has been verified that president Kufour/NPP did far better than the Mahama/NDC 7years.
Economic Growth Rate;
NPP inherited 3.7% in 2001 from president Rawlings/NDC and left it at 8.4% in 2008.
President Mahama/NDC inherited it from NPP in 2009, but has currently dropped our growth rate to about 3.9 (oil revenue inclusive) as of 2015.
Debt to GDP;
President Kufour/NPP inherited 182% of GDP in 2001 from president Rawlings/NDC and left it at 33% of GDP representing GHC 9.5 billion in 2008, president Mills/Mahama/NDC inherited this from president Kufour/NPP in 2009 but as at February 2016 they admit is GHC 90 billion even though analyst peg it at GHC110 billion, president Mahama/NDC has shot it up to above 73% of GDP.
Inflation;
President Kufour/NPP inherited 40% in 2001 from president Rawlings/NDC and left it at 18% in 2008, Mills/Mahama/NDC inherited it in 2009 from president Kufour/NPP as at January 2016, it is around 19%. The NDC are no longer singing the single digit inflation chorus.
We live in an increasingly dangerous world and this fact must not be lost on those in charge of affairs of the state. A section of Ghanaians expressed rightfully concerns when President John Dramani Mahama in his State of the Nation address to Parliament last month referred to America as an “ally” of Ghana.
Foreign Exchange (Cedi to Dollar);
Even though I have talked about this earlier I brought it here for easy referencing.
President Kufour/NPP inherited 0.75 Ghana cedis to a dollar in 2001 from Rawlings/NDC and left it at 1.2 Ghana cedis to a dollar in 2008, Mahama/NDC inherited it in 2009 from Kufour/NPP but as at January 2015, it has shot up to GHC 4 to a dollar.
With such impressive performance coming on the heels of near hopelessness it is only fair that the NDC will shut up and entrust the repair of our economy to a team that can fix it so that if it ever becomes possible they can return and enjoy the fruit of better management.
This year, I insist that voting against the NDC is a national duty to restore hope to Ghana.
