Ghana Premier League: Kotoko Claim First Win

The Porcupine Warriors are back to winning ways after five rounds of matches, but arch-rivals Hearts left it late to steal maximum points away at Inter Allies.

Asante Kotoko recorded their first win of the season with a slim 1-0 score over Sekondi Hasaacas on matchday five of the Ghana Premier League on Friday.

Kwame Boateng fetched the solitary goal on 78 minutes as David Duncan’s men picked up maximum points for the first time this campaign at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

On Saturday, reigning champions Ashanti Gold were held for the fourth successive time this season, settling for a 1-1 stalemate with Aduana Stars at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. A late Bright Adjei’s strike cancelled out a first-half Emmanuel Osei Baffour penalty.

Hearts of Oak maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table following a dramatic 3-2 away win over Inter Allies at the Tema Sports Stadium. Federick Boateng and Gockel Ahortor put the home side two goals up but Isaac Mensah and Ibrahim Musah (2x) scored to give the Phobians a late win. The match winner came in stoppage time.

At the Nana Ameyaw Stadium, Baba Mahama opened the scoring for home side Techiman City in their 1-0 triumph over Dreams FC.

Martin Antwi was the hero at the Sogakope Park, scoring the only goal of the match in Wafa’s1-0 defeat of Liberty Professionals.

Elsewhere, Richard Arthur made amends for a first-half penalty miss with the match winner for Wa All Stars in their lone-goal triumph over New Edubiase.

Bechem United and Ebusua Dwarfs, however, shared the spoils in a scoreless stalemate at the Bechem Park.

Medeama’s away clash with Berekum Chelsea has been rescheduled due to the former’s Caf Confederations Cup encounter with Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli on Sunday.
