Court: GFA Can Hold Congress

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been given the green light to organize this years Congress, which is a prelude to the start of the premier league, following a ruling this morning by a Tema High Court, dismissing a suit filed against the GFA. The Plaintiff, Daniel Rockson, a supporter of Tema Youth Football Club had prayed the court to overturn a decision by the Review Committee of the GFA regarding the eligibility of Tema Youth's Emmanuel Clottey. However, the presiding judge, Justice P.D Ofei, dismissed the application on the basis that Tema Youth is a non-existent business entity since it has not been registered at the Register Generals Department. The court further awarded a cost of 3,000GH cedis against the plaintiff. With this ruling, the GFA can now go ahead and hold its congress. It would be recalled that the ambitions of Tema Youth of staying in the premiership first fizzled after the Review Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dismissed their case regarding the eligibility of Emmanuel Clottey. Clottey joined Tema Youth during the second half of the season after a loan stint with Danish side, Odense BK, but his registration was contested by Berekum Arsenal and Sekondi Eleven Wise, claiming the player had a running contract with his mother Club, Accra Great Olympics till August 2009. The Tema-based Club had entreated the Review Committee to overturn earlier decisions by the Disciplinary and Appeals Committees that saw them loss 12 points. The loss of the 12 points ensured Tema Youth finished 15th on the 16-club standings of the Premier League on 34 points, and subsequently relegated to the First Division with Gamba All Blacks and Sporting Mirren, which occupied the bottom place.
