GPRTU Boss Panics Begs Trustee Not To Resign

The Regional Chairman of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Volta region, Mr. Moses Davor, is panicky over the recent audit report which exposed acts of embezzlement of funds in the union and the Regional first Trustee’s letter to resign from post.

According to reliable sources in the GPRTU Secretariat, the Regional Trustee, Mr. Edward Fiator, tendered in his resignation letter on the 17th March, 2016, to vacate his post as First Trustee due to the recent funds mismanagement scandal which has been discovered in the HO branch 2 audit report.

Sources at the regional secretariat also revealed that the regional Chairman, Moses Davor was on his knees, weeping and begging the Regional Trustee, Edward Fiator not to resign after he was notified about the First Trustee’s resignation letter.

After a closed- door meeting between the GPRTU Volta Regional Chairman, Moses Davor Billy Padmore, Public relation Officer of the union, Volta Regional First Trustee Edward Fiator, and other Executives at the Regional Secretariat Office, Mr. Fiator bend to the pleas of Moses Davor and took back his resignation letter to stay at post.

In a phone interview with the First Trustee, Mr. Edward Fiator,  said he reserved the right to resign if he wanted to, but he was still at post as the regional first trustee of the GPRTU Volta region.

On the question of bad relation between him and the regional chairman, he said, “I will not be able to comment on that but what I can say is that I did not resign”.

The regional chairman who has been  cited for contempt for disobeying court orders in the Appeals Court and also been contested to step aside from his post as regional chairman at the magistrate court,  was begging the regional First Trustee not to resign because it would leave vacuum to expose the financial mess caused at the regional secretariat.

Intercepted audit report of HO Branch 2 station in the Volta Region revealed that the HO Branch 2 funds have been mismanaged by the regional secretariat without the knowledge of the branch 2 members.

The audit report recorded that HO Branch 2 had supported the regional secretariat with an amount of GH 1,328.00 for maintenance of the GPRTU Building, but sources said since Mr. Davor took over as the regional chairman there had not been any maintenance on the building.

Again, the audit report also recorded that the regional secretariat in cahoots with HO branch 2 chairman, Michael Sonkro, was using HO Branch 2 funds of GH 916.00 for the maintenance of number of Buses belonging to some of individuals at the regional secretariat. Buses registration numbers were; Joy Long VR 700-12, Joy Long 671-12, Joy Long VR- 690-12.

Aside of the above funds mismanagement, the HO Branch 2 Chairman again conspired with the regional secretariat to use branch 2 funds to pay for the installment of buses belonging to some executives at the regional secretariat.

Nonetheless, the problems seem to pile up on the Moses Davor, who doubles as government appointee at the Akatsi district and also GPRTU Volta regional Chairman. Credible information reaching this reporter revealed also, that the regional chairman went for billions of Ghana cedi loan from the Ghana National Bank (GN Bank) HO Branch, purposely to purchase some Joy Long buses from China for the union members.

Sources said that the Regional Chairman has defaulted payment of the Billions of Ghana cedi loan he took from the GN Bank and he has been served with a letter from the GN Bank to honour payment else the GPRTU regional secretariat building and hotel which he used as collateral would be taken away from the union.

On a phone interview with the Bank Manager at the GN Bank in Volta region, Mr. Sylvester, said loans given to customers could not be disclosed to the media and he would not want to discuss, but that they knew where and how to address such issues.
