Mahama On Course For Appointing Dr. Issahaku As New Governor NPP MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah says President John Mahama has not failed in appointing the second Deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana(BoG), Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku to be the Governor of BoG, even though Millison Narh was the first deputy to the out-gone governor Dr. Kofi Wampah.

He said, “I was expecting the president to elect a person from the field of monetary economy – a person well abreast with monetary and exchange rate policies, which are the core components of what is needed to be done at the BoG to stabilize the economy, but I believe Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku with his qualification in Agric Economy and working experience with the Central Bank would do an excellent job on exactly what is expected of him.”

“The newly elected governor without doubt has a big task to perform due to the constant depreciation of the cedi, IMF programme , high inflation and microfinance saga,” he noted.

He asserted that appointing an individual with a background of monetary and micro economy field to be the governor of the BoG would have saved this nation than electing an Agric economist as the president has done now.

He advised “the appointed governor to bear in mind that the IMF programme on which we are now running our economy with does not permit government to borrow from the Central Bank this year, 2016. Therefore he should make sure to go by this law and not borrow money to the current government as the out-gone governor Dr. Kofi Wampah did in his term of office, when he borrowed 33% of the nation’s tax revenue to government when he was entitled to 10%.”

“Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku should make sure he acts fairly on behalf of Ghana as a country and not NDC as a party since he has before stood for parliamentary position on behalf of the NDC party in the Northern Region,” he said.
