The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party, in collaboration with other opposition political parties and Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Movement for Change (MFC), Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) are staging a demonstration against the Electoral Commission of Ghana tomorrow.
The demonstration, which is dubbed "Baamu Yaddaa" is expected to drive hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians on to the streets of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
The dress code for participants who are expected to converge on the State Boys Primary School located around the Suame Roundabout - Abrepo Junction Highway from 6.00 am is 'red & black'.
The demonstration is to express concern about any electoral act that could undermine the peace and stability of the nation.
Organisers of the demonstration have been demanding a credible and reliable voters register for the conduct of free, fair, transparent and a peaceful election.
It is also urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to show some urgency and announce to Ghanaians its roadmap for the implementation of the recommendation by its own panel of experts for voter validation.
The statement was signed by Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman, NPP Ashanti Region), Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare (Movement for Change-MFC), David Asante (Let My Vote Count Alliance - LMVCA) and Dr Afriyie Ayew (Alliance for Accountable governance- AFAG).
Meanwhile the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) has said it is leaving no stone unturned to ensure it commits to the fight that will give Ghanaians a fresh voters register for a credible, free and fair election come November, 7,2016.
The LMVCA, with other allied opposition pressure groups, is joining the NPP in the Ashanti Region to embark on a demonstration tomorrow, Wednesday, April, 6, 2016 in a fresh episode of its agitations for the compilation of a new register ahead of the election.
A statement released by Convener of the LMVCA on Sunday said: “Wednesday’s protest in the Ashanti Region will not be the end of this matter. It is only the beginning of a series of public agitations to force the EC to be professional, unbiased, wise and responsive to the concerns of the electoral process.”
