SECURITY ALERT: Police Warn Of Thieves On Some Major Streets In Accra

The Accra Regional Police Command is urging the public especially motorists, commuters and pedestrians who ply in and around the Graphic road –along the flyover, Awudome Cemetery Road, Accra Mall Roundabout, La Beach – on the Teshie Nungua Road, George Walker Bush Highway, (N1) and Pokuase-Amasaman Road to be wary of criminal activities in those areas and be security conscious.

According to the police, the caution is based on empirical analysis of street crime trends within the region, where some miscreants deprive commuters of handy items and personal valuables such as mobile phones, purses, tablets, handbags and laptops at the least distraction or inattentiveness.

A statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, ASP Effia Tenge emphasized the need for the public to be extra vigilant.

“While the police continue to embark on pragmatic steps including rush-hour duties, visibility patrols, motorbike patrols and intelligence led operations, among others which for security reasons cannot be made public, to nib the situation in the bud, it is entreating the public to be extra vigilant when plying the above mentioned traffic prone areas”.

The police as part of public sensitization further advices motorist and passengers to observe the following at all times;

Conveniently roll up car windows when in traffic to prevent criminals from having access to personal valuables.

Desist from displaying handy items and electronic devices in vehicles.
Be extra careful when approached by hawkers to sell items while in traffic.
Be wary of strangers, especially ladies who approach you for free ride.
Ensure that vehicles doors are locked up in the course of their journeys.

The statement added: “The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its assurances to rid the metropolis of such miscreants however, it is calling on the public to be extra vigilant to avoid falling victims to criminals.
