Carpentry Is Never For School Dropouts

The Chief Executive Officer of Cribs to Homes Furniture, a carpentry and creative art company, Mr Peres Oduro-Ansah has urged young people who have the passion to go into carpentry not to feel that carpentry is for school drop-outs but rather a noble profession that can make them better people in future.

Mr Oduro-Ansah has a BSc in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

After 5 years of working in the banking sector in the area of financial operations and credit management and two years in the mining sector, he believes that his real calling is carpentry.

“I have this desire to make things that will make people happy, I am good at almost anything I touch with my hands, I admire simple, beautiful and natural handmade things.

“Because i know how to draw, it gives me joy that I'm able to blend my drawing skills in making creative stuff into useful things,” he said.

Even though he has some challenges such as getting raw materials on time, machinery and most of all delivery cost, he believes as a risk taker, he will surely make it as one of Ghana’s young and successful carpenters.

“Sometimes people don't just understand that someone with a University degree should go into such a profession but when they see the kinds of furniture I make, they are amazed. In fact carpentry is never for school dropouts,” he concluded.

Cribs to Homes has been established as a Carpentry and Creative Arts Company registered under the laws of Ghana and based in Kumasi.
