Nungua Bankers Rapist Robber Busted

The supposed kingpin of a robbery gang that allegedly attacked and raped a police woman and two bankers in the course of their robbery operations at Nungua, a suburb of Accra, has finally been arrested by the police.

The suspect, identified as Michael Appiah aka Not Nice, 22 years old, was arrested at his hideout at Kokrobitey near Weija in the Ga South municipality of the Greater Accra Region on May 2, 2016.

Michael is the second person to be arrested after the arrest of Benjamin Akwei, 23, on March 29, 2016 in Accra.

Akwei was subsequently put before court and jailed 72 years for robbery.

The third accomplice, who is a Nigerian national named Anago Macho, is on the run and is being wanted by the police.

ASP Effia Tengey, Accra Regional police spokeswoman, confirmed the arrest of Michael to DAILY GUIDE.

The gang emerged last year after the arrest and prosecution of four suspected armed robbers who were terrorizing residents of the area.

Their modus operandi was attacking mostly women in their rooms with machetes and other deadly weapons and sometimes raped them and took away their valuables.

When Benjamin Akwei was arrested in March this year, eight female victims, including a police woman, two bankers and a nurse who claimed to have been robbed, visited the police station – where Akwei was sent – to identify him in an identification parade.

When Akwei was interrogated, he admitted to the offence and further led the police to the victims’ houses to demonstrate how they (he and his accomplices) entered the houses, raped and robbed their victims.

He also mentioned Michael as the leader of the gang and Anago Macho as an accomplice.

Meanwhile, Michael Appiah is being prepared for court.
