21-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Defrauding Mobile Money Operator

A 21-year-old woman, Nadia Dziedzorm Seshie is in the grips of the Tema police for allegedly defrauding a mobile money operator.

The suspect was said to have approached a mobile money agent at Tema Community 10 near Monte Carlo pub in Greater Accra on Tuesday and requested the operator transfer an amount of Gh¢3,000 to a certain mobile number  belonging to one Mr Frimpong.

The Tema Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ms Juliana Obeng told Graphic Online that after the transaction had gone through, the suspect refused to give the Gh¢3,000 in cash to the agent as expected but rather boarded a waiting taxi.

The agent realising he had been tricked, rushed to the taxi and held the suspect, while screaming for help.

With the assistance of a policeman who was passing by, the suspect was arrested.

She was later handed over to the Tema Community 11 police for further investigation. The taxi driver however sped off from the scene.

Meanwhile, further checks by the mobile money operator revealed that the amount transferred has since been withdrawn.

The Tema Regional  Police Command PRO cautioned mobile money agents and operators in the metropolis to be cautious with the people they render service to and be on the alert since such acts were gradually becoming a new modus operandi for criminals.
