Enterprising Ghanaian side Medeama Sporting Club clawed their way back to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 2:0 at Sekondi Wednesday.
Sundowns had won the first leg 3:1 at home and were highly favoured to sail through, however, their defensive minded approach ensured they were on the receiving end as they made a heavy weather of their 2-goal advantage to go out on the strength of the away goal rule after the two sides tied 3-3 on aggregate.
Medeama’s deputy skipper Malik Akowua and Bernard Ofori scored in each half to make the money zone berth a reality for the Ghanaian side who had maintained that deliberate frustrations in the first leg accounted for their defeat.
