A Tarkwa Circuit court has remanded a Senior High School (SHS) graduate into prison custody for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

The accused, Ebenezer Twum, was charged for rape, assault and causing harm.

He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on May 20.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that, the complainant, Adu Hagar, the father of the victim resides at Boinso with the daughter, while the accused was a resident of Jema in the Aowin District of the Western Region.

He said on February 24, there was an inter-school sporting competition at Omanpe village, near Enchi where both the victim and the accused attended.

According to the prosecutor, the accused, met the victim on the same day around 2100 hours and promised to give her a mobile phone and GH¢20.00 if she allowed him to have sex with her.

The victim agreed and they went to the outskirt of the town for sex.

However, in the course of the sexual intercourse, the victim complained of pains and asked the accused to stop, but Twum got angry and started beating her and threatened to kill her.

The victim shouted loudly and that attracted the neighbours to the place.

The prosecution said the victim informed the parents and later lodged a complaint with the police and Twum was arrested and arraigned.
