He said the right measures are not being put in place to ensure that this issues are avoided.
Speaking to News Ghana in an interview, the MP, who is also the deputy Majority Whip in Parliament revealed that in the year 2006, the Ghanaian parliament approved an agreement between the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Government of Ghana and a Canadian company, to remove the tree stumps in the Volta lake to ensure the safety of travelers, among others. However these plans could not materialize for reasons that are not clear.
He said in 2010, another contract agreement similar to the earlier one was again signed yet nothing has happened as the tree stumps can still be found in the water.
“When you visit the place, you will see the tree stumps being referred to, even mahogany can be found in the water. What happened to the contract agreement signed? Who isn’t or didn’t carry out his or her activities,? he asked.
This throw back information was background on a statement made on the floor of the House on Tuesday by the Honorable Member of Parliament for Pru East constituency, Dr. Kwabena Donkor on the recent accidents on the Volta lake.
First Deputy speaker of parliament, Ebo Barton Odro who presided over proceedings for the day has therefore directed that the transport committee of parliament probe into the situation and present a report to the House for consideration.
