Suzzie Wanted To Die To Experience Heaven

Exactly four years ago, actress Suzzy Williams died in a motor accident. THE SPECTATOR joined hands with all Ghanaians to mourn the diva who passed on when she was in the prime of her career. Below is how this paper mourned the 23-year-old film star. SUZZY Williams, in her fast, short but memo- rable life, personified the sweet lily, the fragrant rose, the buttercup that blossoms and withers away too soon. Like the rising sun that slowly glides across the sky and gives light to the world, Suzzy glittered like pure gold and made great impact. When the sun slowly set in the West, her life dimmed suddenly and Suzzy was no more. Tears overflowed, but not enough to mourn her departure. But as the sun rises every morning in the East, Suzzy will be remembered forever every day. Today, she will be laid to rest, but her memory will rekindle with the morning sun. She is the sleeping beauty! She is dead, yet alive! Suzzy Williams burst onto the scene when the young, extremely pretty handiwork of God decided to be an actress. Her good looks complemented her vaulting ambitions as she carved her way to stardom. When she was a student at Tema Secondary School, she was little known until she acted in a school drama that earned her the accolade as Best Actress. Since then Suzzy never looked back. Her comely demeanour, natural beauty, flair for acting and a passion for fame pushed her up the movie ladder quicker than she could imagine herself. Soon she was performing in films and soap operas including Sun City, Blood Mary, Tentacles, Fresh Trouble, Mothers Heart and Calamity. Nigerian film producers saw a goldmine in her and offered her contracts, all of which she executed with brilliance and disarming flair. She fast built a mass following, and films in which she starred became instant blockbusters. Her producers earned big money and so did Suzzy. She soon bought a Mutsubishi with number GW 818 W. It was that four-wheel drive that eventually became Suzzys undoing. With a male companion in the driving seat, the Mitsubishi somersaulted in what some describe as a freak accident on the Nungua-Accra road. The actress with the charming voice was thrown out of the vehicle and died at Lister Clinic off the Spintex road. At the age of only 23, her life was like a very short but explosive drama watched by an intensely passionate audience. The tragi-comedy of this drama could not be lost on the world. The memories linger on. Suzzy who once said she wanted to die in order to experience heaven, will surely be in the bosom of the Lord. May her soul rest in peace.
