Interior Ministry Supervises BNI, Nat'l Security

The Ministry for the Interior has been given the responsibility to supervise the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Office of National Security.

This follows a directive given by President John Dramani Mahama directing that all intelligence services in the country be placed under the supervision of Ministry for the Interior.

The directive was contained in a communication from the President to the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, who read the details on the floor of Parliament on Thursday June 16, 2016.

According to the communication, the President made the directive in accordance with section 17 of the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act 1996.

“In accordance with section 17 of the Security and Intelligence Agency Act 1996, I [President Mahama] hereby assign ministerial responsibility for the intelligence agencies for the Minister of Interior with immediate effect,” Mr Doe Adjaho read.
