First White Sugar From Komenda Sugar Factory (PHOTOS)

The Komenda Sugar factory in the Central region has finally produced its first sugar, with the first samples to be presented to officials of the Trade Ministry.

Secretary of the Board of the factory, Ransford Vani-Amoah disclosed this on Asempa FM Monday.

There has been raging controversy over the operations of the factory, with claims and counter claims about its viability and readiness to operate. Ransford Vani-Amoah disclosed that the sample sugar will be presented to the Ministry of Trade, some organizations for testing and validation.

There had been earlier claims weeks ago that the factory has produced its first sugar for consumption, but this was rubbished by many who described the claim as a publicity stunt.

A visit by Adom FM's morning show team last week showed the factory had produced some brown sugar and was well on its way to producing its first white sugar as it goes through the test run process.

Days later, officials of the factory say the ultimate has been achieved, with the production of its first white sulpher-less sugar.
