Parents Urged To Monitor Their Children At Home To Prevent Deviant Behaviour

The Reverend Daniel Louis Appiah- Kubi, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Parents-Teachers Association Council (PTAC) has advised parents to closely monitor their children at home, especially after the completion of their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This will help to prevent the children from engaging in deviant and negative practices, which could ruin their future aspirations.

Rev. Appiah-Kubi maintained that ineffective parental controls were contributing to the high incidence of immorality such as cyber fraud, drug abuse, prostitution, alcoholism and other negative practices among youth in the country.

Addressing the Ashanti regional PTA Council meeting in Kumasi, Rev. Appiah-Kubi, stressed the need for parents to take full responsibility in the upbringing of their children and desist from shrieking their responsibilities.

The meeting was to discuss the new education decentralization Policy and the dynamics in Ghana’s educational structure.

Rev. Appiah-Kubi pointed out that emotional development of children was very vital to their adult growth and development and urged parents to attend to their children’s needs at all times.

He counselled children to embrace discipline and stick to their books, which he said were the most important things in their lives at the moment.

He praised teachers and school authorities for their relentless efforts in ensuring the proper training of children in their care to enable them become useful citizens in their communities.

On behalf of the Council, Rev. Appiah-Kubi congratulated those who just completed their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for comporting themselves to ensure incident-free examination this year.

Mr. Owusu Afriyie, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Council, expressed concern about the high incidents of child neglect in the region and advised couples to plan their families and maintain better relationships to prevent divorce.

He also spoke against incidents of child trafficking and forced labour in some communities and advised parents involved to desist from such acts since they affected the health and education of their children.
