5 Nabbed Over Petrol Dealers Death

THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has declared two people including one Papa Djan, a firewood seller at BB at Asafo in Kumasi, wanted over the killing of Anthony Drobo, a fuel dealer at Atwima Kotwi, who was shot and butchered with a machete by armed robbers who attacked his home Tuesday evening.

Police managed to arrest five prime suspects, who had bolted with cash and mobile phones from the crime scene, and through interrogations they mentioned Djan, who resides at Adiebeba, also in Kumasi, as their financier and that he usually bought stolen goods at cheap rates from them.

Kwaku Ababe, said to be an accomplice of the five arrested robbers, is also on police wanted list.

Both Djan and Ababe vanished into thin air after they learnt of the arrest of the five suspects.

The arrested people are Kofi Emmanuel, 22, a food vendor, who was identified by the wife of Gawo; Kwadwo Addai aka Chief, 18,  a driver; Moses Atoa, 19; Sadat Mohammed aka Survivor, 22, who was released from remand three months ago and Power, 22.

Briefing the media, ACP Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said on that fateful day three young men went to the residence of Gawo, who was a fuel dealer at Kotwi, and forcibly entered his room and robbed him at gunpoint.

He said the hoodlums shot Gawo in the thigh and the fuel dealer in a desperate attempt to defend himself, picked a machete but the robbers snatched the machete from him and hacked Gawo several times before using a stick to hit the back of Gawo’s head, resulting in his demise.

The police, acting upon intelligence, quickly rushed to the BB area at Asafo in Kumasi and arrested Kwadwo Addai, Moses Atoa and Kofi Emmanuel, who was identified by the wife of the deceased. Sadat Mohammed was grabbed later by the police.

ACP Ampofo said Power, the fifth person, who usually bought stolen items such as laptops, mobile phones and electronic gadgets from the hardened robbers, was also arrested and upon interrogation, he mentioned Papa Djan, who is on the run, as the main financier of the robbers.
