NDC Women Fight Kennedy Agyapong

The women’s wing of the Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by the (regional) women organizer, Evelyn Korang, has staged a demonstration against the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, for allegedly attacking the EC chairperson, Charlotte Osei.

The women, who were reportedly conveyed from almost all the 33 constituencies and given some money to lodge in hotels in Koforidua, called on the Peace Council, religious bodies, the Privileges Committee of Parliament and all well-meaning Ghanaians to speak against such an utterance by the lawmaker.

The NDC women, including constituency and branch executives, staged the protest Thursday morning, taking over the principal streets of the regional capital. They held placards with numerous inscriptions as they marched along.

Ms Evelyn Korang, addressing the media, said she led the ‘Concerned Women’ group in the region to demonstrate against Mr Kennedy Agyapong, over his attacks on professional women in the country, especially the EC boss.

The group presented a petition to the Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, who received it on behalf of the government.

Addressing the petitioners, the minister indicated that she would not sit down and allow Kennedy Agyapong to insult women and therefore, called on the leadership of the NPP to condemn the legislator’s comments.

Mr. Agyapong has come under intense public attack following some purported unsavoury remarks he made against Ms Charlotte Osei. Speaking to Accra-based Adom FM, Kennedy said he would verbally attack the EC chair the more if she did not stop her sinister moves against the New Patriotic Party – of which he (Kennedy) is a staunch member.

“..When they’re talking about me, insulting me all this while, everybody is there and they won’t say anything, but when I respond then they say I have taken the law into my own hands.

“If you like I will say more. The woman’s posture and her attitude, we have to let people know who she is. Why must we be afraid to say the truth? If you dare me, I will say more about Charlotte Osei and why she is doing what she is doing…..” he fumed.
