Painter Remanded For Incest In Tema

The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ has remanded into prison custody Wisdom Akpe, a painter, for allegedly raping his 19-year-old daughter.

Akpe, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of incest, was remanded to reappear in court on July 26, this year.

The Court presided over by Mrs Mariama Samma, heard from prosecution that the victim resides with Akpe in the same room at Mangoase in Tema Community Two.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stanley Dzakpasu, prosecuting, said on July 7, this year at about 0330 hours when victim was fast asleep, her father jumped on her, held her throat and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The facts indicated that victim informed Akpe about her intentions to report the incident to the Police but he pleaded with her not to do so.

On Friday July 8, at about 2000 hours, Akpe approached the victim with a condom and attempted to have canal knowledge of her but she declined.

Prosecution added that on Saturday, July 9, the accused person told the victim that he wanted her to accuse a neighbour of raping her to the hearing of his friends but she refused to be part of that ploy.

This, the Court heard, did not go down well with Akpe who slapped the victim severally and threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife.

Accused friends who were present intervened and prevented him from stabbing her.

Victim then lodged a complaint with the Tema Community Two Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
